Mediterranean Diet Food for Breast Cancer Survivors
Ladies with breast cancer need to look at their weight conscientiously since excess weight at the time of diagnosis or any time during treatment can significantly increase her possibility of cancer recurrence. Well, to be truthful about it, you wouldn't go into such concerns if you're on a Mediterranean diet.
According to a study published in the June 2010 issue of the Book of Female Health, following a plant-based olive oil rich diet for 8 weeks ended in a 5% weight loss in 80% of the ladies that adopted the diet. This diet yielded seriously more satisfactory results since only 31% of those that followed the traditional low-fat diet recommended by the Nation's Cancer Institute (NCI) achieved identical results.
After completing the 8 week trial, the players were allowed to choose which diet they would like to follow for another six months. Intriguingly enough, most of the women who completed the opening study went for the plant-based olive oil rich diet which is pretty much similar to the traditional Mediterranean way of eating. What's rather more fascinating is that all of these ladies managed to stay with their chosen diets: Something that people who went for the NCI endorsed low-fat diet failed to do.
As an additional bonus, people who adhered to the Mediterranean-like diet were noted to have lower triglycerides and higher HDL or good cholesterol levels, 2 factors that further reduce cancer risks.
Now, are there any questions left why the Mediterranean diet is nice for breast cancer patients and survivors alike? I don't think, so you better prepare yourself and make that switch!
